On Wednesday, March twenty‑fifth, leaders from the Lagos State University of Science and Technology launched the Precision Agriculture Certification Initiative.

The Dean of Agriculture, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), and Heads of Departments all aligned on one bold vision—transforming agricultural education through technology.

This initiative builds on a shared commitment to “strengthening institutional capacity in modern, technology‑driven agriculture.”

Agriculture is evolving fast. Digital tools, data insights, and climate‑smart practices are now essential. And LASUSTECH, in partnership with Abeo Farms, is stepping up to lead.

The collaboration supports the mission to “promote sustainable food production and security through education and partnerships.” Together, they are positioning LASUSTECH as a regional hub for precision agriculture training, research, and consultancy.

During the kickoff, stakeholders reviewed the program structure, curriculum, and LASUSTECH’s strategic role in Nigeria’s digital agriculture ecosystem.

They confirmed readiness to integrate drones, GIS mapping, IoT sensors, and data analytics directly into teaching, research, and commercial services—aligned with the promise of “hands‑on training, advanced equipment use, and competency‑based instruction.”

A major milestone is next—the Train‑the‑Trainer Program, coming in just a few weeks.

Abeo Farms will train selected LASUSTECH staff in drone operations, GIS mapping, IoT sensors, data analytics, and climate‑smart agriculture. These trainees will become internal champions—leading future cohorts, supporting curriculum delivery, and enabling LASUSTECH to run its certification programs independently.

Beyond training, the partnership unlocks commercial opportunities: drone stand counts, spraying, mapping, surveying, crop scouting, farm zoning, data analytics, advisory services, and agricultural asset inspection.

All of this paves the way for a Precision Agriculture Consultancy Unit—a new income‑generating arm for the University.

The presentation notes that “drones create detailed maps of agricultural fields, supporting better land use and crop planning.”

The broader vision is clear: position LASUSTECH as a national leader in digital agriculture.

The partnership supports collaborative research, innovation in sustainable farming, workforce development, and national recognition through joint certification. It aims at “setting standards that guide the digital agriculture sector effectively.”

The kickoff also celebrated key milestones: site visit to Abeo Farms, curriculum drafted, training sites identified, financial and revenue models agreed, and the Train‑the‑Trainer workshop scheduled.

Momentum is strong.

The Precision Agriculture Certification Initiative marks a turning point—strengthening academic excellence, expanding commercial capacity, and supporting national food security.

As the presentation concludes, this collaboration “supports agricultural sector growth through innovative practices and technology integration.”

Together, LASUSTECH and Abeo Farms are unlocking transformational opportunities—empowering the next generation of agricultural professionals and shaping the future of farming in Nigeria.
